Flynn Downes may well be given with a huge chance to cement his place in the team if David Moyes starts him for the Gent vs West Ham clash.
I believe that starting Flynn Downes for the Gent vs West Ham clash is a no-brainer for David Moyes.

The 24-year-old joined the Hammers from Swansea City for around £14 million in the summer transfer window (Wales Online).

However, Moyes has given the midfielder just 1,131 minutes of action this season, with only 471 of those coming in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).
What makes those numbers really baffling is the fact that every time Downes has played for West Ham, he has really impressed.
Moyes will surely start the former Swansea man tonight. He needs more minutes and his quality on the ball in the middle of the park should help us control the game…
Flynn Downes deserves big chance for West Ham against Gent
Moyes absolutely must start the 24-year-old in midfield alongside Declan Rice and Lucas Paqueta tonight in my opinion.
The 24-year-old is streets ahead of Tomas Soucek in every single department, apart from in the air.
Downes is an archetypal defensive midfielder. He is absolutely brilliant at breaking up play and quickly moving the ball on – something that enables us to get up the pitch so much faster in transition.

He is tenacious, aggressive and has a really impressive engine on him. The midfielder is perfectly built for the modern game, but he’s far from a one-trick physical pony.
Downes is a very good passer of the football and possesses impressive technical ability.
If Flynn Downes does start for West Ham against Gent, it will be a huge chance for him to send a big message to David Moyes, and make it impossible for the Scot to drop him.
Starting him out in Belgian should be the easiest decision that Moyes has to make this season in my view.
