One player’s struggles at West Ham were down to the Hammers fans according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Gabby Agbonlahor was a star for Aston Villa during his playing days, and is now a high level pundit for talkSPORT.
He often airs his views on the goings on at West Ham, and he recently criticised Michail Antonio for partaking in his regular podcast – rightly so in my opinion.
However, his latest suggestion is a little wide of the mark as far as I’m concerned.
West Ham made a bright start to the 2023/24 season, but the campaign ended in disappointment, both domestically and on the continent.
Our struggles were down to David Moyes not learning from his mistakes, and numerous Hammers players underperforming for sustained periods of time.
However, one of them stood out as our worst performer of the season by quite some distance.

The talkSPORT pundit has made a name for himself with his no-nonsense and incredibly honest views on the game today.
However, his latest remarks simply don’t ring true in my opinion.
Agbonlahor has been speaking to talkSPORT about what the future holds for Kalvin Phillips.
The former Villa striker said, “The West Ham fans are not going to give you game time to get your feet on the table. They were on him after two games. We had callers on the Saturday phone-in straightaway, ‘not good enough’, ‘we didn’t want him from Manchester City’. That’s the problem he has got. Whoever he goes to, he needs to start well.”
That’s utter rubbish if you ask me. If you put in the effort and show that you’re committed, the Hammers fans will have your back.
That was the main problem with the 28-year-old – he looked like he wasn’t bothered, and his effort levels were severely lacking.
Phillips has endured a torrid time at West Ham, and has played just 319 minutes of football for us.
The Englishman was at fault for numerous goals we’ve conceded since the end of January – Bournemouth at home and Manchester United away spring to mind.
Phillips got sent off away at Nottingham Forest and gave away a penalty at a crucial time up at St James’ Park in March.
One talkSPORT pundit even suggested that he should personally refund the Hammers after ‘sabotaging’ our season.
I would go as far as suggesting that the Phillips signing cost us a place inside the top seven. Had Moyes brought in a striker or a winger instead of the midfielder, I’m convinced we’d have been better off at the end of the season.
The Gabby Agbonlahor claim that the West Ham fans were to blame for Kalvin Phillips’ struggles at the London Stadium is just plain wrong if you ask me.
