Failed £4.5m transfer in 2021 now looks like David Moyes’ worst West Ham error as new £80m valuation emerges.
Brighton signed unbelievably talented 21-year-old midfielder Moises Caicedo from Independiente del Valle in the summer of 2021 for just £4.5 million (Sky Sports).

However, before he joined the Seagulls, Hammers manager David Moyes had the chance to bring him to the London Stadium.
West Ham were heavily linked with Caicedo back in the early stages of the 2021 summer transfer window. Moyes moved on from that interest, however, and signed Alex Kral on loan instead.

Wow – what a huge mistake that looks like. If only the Scot had more foresight, and realised that the Ecuador international had truly unbelievable potential just waiting to be unlocked…
David Moyes made a huge error by not bringing Moises Caicedo to West Ham
After choosing not to sign the 21-year-old for just £4.5 million, the Brighton midfielder is now valued at a whopping £80 million (Daily Mail), and is one of the very best defensive midfielders in world football already!
Had we signed Caicedo two years ago, we would have had a ready made replacement for Declan Rice already at the club, and he would have only cost us £4.5 million.
What a terrible decision it was by Moyes to sign Alex Kral on loan from Spartak Moscow instead of bringing the South American starlet to the London Stadium.
90 Min recently labelled Caicedo as ‘outstanding’, and they’re not wrong! What a player he is.
Caicedo has adapted so well to the robust and intense nature of Premier League football, which is quite remarkable considering the fact that he’s only 21.

The former Independiente del Valle is incredibly strong, has stamina, pace and power in abundance and is one of the few players in the Premier League who are of a similar standard to Declan Rice.
He is a powerful and energetic central midfielder and has bagged two goals and three assists in 46 games for Brighton thus far (Transfermarkt).
Moises Caicedo will undoubtedly get a big move away from Brighton this summer, and despite the fact that the Seagulls will not want to lose him, they will still be left with a tidy £70 million plus profit.
West Ham manager David Moyes has made plenty of mistakes in the transfer market over the past couple of years. However, failing to sign Caicedo for peanuts has to rank up there as his very worst decision during his time at the London Stadium.
