One-time West Ham United flop scores long range effort against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
The ex West Ham man was playing for his side against Real Madrid in the Champions League, and reminded everyone how good he can be.
Hammers manager David Moyes has endured plenty of criticism from the fans for allowing certain players to leave too soon.
The likes of Gianluca Scamacca, Sebastien Haller and Felipe Anderson have all been let go by Moyes over the past few years, only to succeed with their new clubs.
Not every player Moyes has sold has been a hit elsewhere, of course. Nikola Vlasic is struggling with Torino this season, whilst Issa Diop has struggled with Fulham.
Another player who the West Ham manager let go was Alex Kral. He was a flop at West Ham, there’s no two ways about that, but he hasn’t failed or succeeded really since he left the London Stadium.
That said, he made a real name for himself last night…
West Ham flop scores against Real Madrid
The 25-year-old joined the Hammers on a season-long loan from Spartak Moscow in the summer of 2021.
West Ham had the option to sign him permanently in the summer of 2022 for around £17 million (£12 million plus a potential £5 million in add-ons).
However, Moyes obviously did not take up that option, and when he left he aimed a clear dig at Moyes by saying that he wasn’t given enough chances and suggested that he felt disconnected from the rest of the squad.
Kral ended up moving to Bundesliga side Schalke before linking up with Union Berlin on loan this summer just gone.
The Czech Republic midfielder has since been making waves with the German side, and things got even better for him last night.
The 25-year-old was introduced to the game last night as a 75th minute substitute, and he made an immediate difference for the Bundesliga outfit.
Kral fired into the bottom corner from outside the box for Union Berlin against Real Madrid last night, to level the scores at 2-2 with just five minutes left to play.
Unfortunately for the German side though, Madrid went up the other end just a few minutes later and won the game through a Dani Ceballos strike.
Still, it was a big night for Kral on a personal note. Last night’s goal was his first in the Champions League – good luck to him.
The headlines this morning will read – West Ham flop scores against Real Madrid, but here’s the thing – he was never good enough to be playing in the Premier League. Moyes was 100% correct by not taking up the option to sign him permanently.
