Doubt has been cast over the future of David Moyes at West Ham as a reporter close to David Sullivan delivers insight.

You don’t have to cast your mind back too far to remember when David Moyes was clinging onto his job as West Ham manager.

A plethora of managers were linked as potential replacements for the Scot during last season’s Premier League struggles.

Indeed rumours even persisted into the summer, after Moyes had led the Hammers to their first major trophy in 43 years.

The owner-driven appointment of Tim Steidten as technical director in charge of recruitment sparked further speculation that Moyes could walk.

But their initial frosty relationship thawed, a middleground was found and West Ham enjoyed an excellent window.

That has translated into an equally good start to the new season on all fronts.

With his contract up at the end of the season, though, talk about Moyes’ long-term future bubbles to the surface every now and again.

Now doubt has been cast over the future of Moyes at West Ham as a reporter close to David Sullivan delivers insight.

Claret and Hugh’s Hughie Southon has a close relationship with Sullivan.

And in an exclusive story yesterday, he has suggested the West Ham boss may soon find himself considering his future with the restructure and changes behind the scenes.

As reported on Hammers News over the weekend and at the start of the week, Moyes ally and top West Ham scout Mick Doherty is leaving for Atalanta.

‘Moyes may well see his own position becoming more fragile’

And Southon says another Moyes ally, head of recruitment Rob Newman, could be the next to depart.

“David Moyes may find himself considering his own West Ham future before long should things continue to unfold as they are right now,” Southon reports.

“There has been much talk of whether the club will offer him a new deal as he progresses through the third year of his current contract but it may not be their decision…

“Given those situations (surrounding Doherty, Newman and Steidten’s influence) Moyes may well see his own position becoming more fragile and make a negative decision on whether he wishes to remain at the club should he be offered a new deal.

“Indeed the club – despite backing him in the summer – sat back while he decided whether or not to stay as the pressure was piled on him ahead of the (Europa) Conference (League) win!”
