Double whammy for West Ham ahead of Wolves after Premier League make official announcement

West Ham United play host to Wolves in the Premier League at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Wolves have been very good in the Premier League this season and they will be no pushovers, so the West Ham players will have to be on their very best form if we are to win the game.

It’s a huge game for us this weekend, and we’ve already received a huge boost with Edson Alvarez declaring himself fit for the clash. However, it isn’t all good news for West Ham.

Hammers boss David Moyes will be desperate to get his side back to winning ways in the league, after our 5-0 thrashing away at Fulham last weekend.

West Ham looked so much better against Freiburg in the Europa League last night, and hopefully we see more of that on Sunday against Wolves.

However, there is some bad news for us ahead of the match, after the Premier League made an official announcement.

And it’s very much the same old story for the Hammers…

Bad news for West Ham ahead of Wolves clash

The Premier League have confirmed Chris Kavanagh as the referee for the clash between the Hammers and Wolves on Sunday.

It’s not the first time this season when we’ve been assigned officials who have clear agendas against us.

West Ham have some serious history with the 38-year-old Greater Manchester-born ref.

We have lost nine of the 21 games that Kavanagh has taken charge of, and have won only seven of those (Transfermarkt).

He’s been involved in some controversial decisions when refereeing our games as well.

Hammers boss David Moyes was left fuming with Kavanagh and the VAR officials after we were denied a late penalty against Liverpool at the London Stadium back in April when Thiago clearly handled the ball inside his own box (Sky Sports).

And then he was at it again a couple of months ago, when he refused to award West Ham a spot-kick at Anfield after Jarrod Bowen was clearly brought down inside the penalty area.

Let’s not forget about the ludicrous decision that he made a few years ago when Fabian Balbuena was sent off as well!

The Hammers lost 1-0 to Chelsea and that decision cost us dearly in the hunt for Champions League football.

If Kavanagh being named as the referee for the game isn’t bad enough, guess who’s on VAR duty? None other than Mr Jarred Gillett – the man responsible for ruling out Maxwel Cornet’s goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last season.

Moyes said the Australian shouldn’t be anywhere near football after the game (The Mirror), and I tend to agree with him.

The combination of Kavanagh and Gillett on referee and VAR duty for the West Ham vs Wolves clash is a nightmare in the making for us.

Let’s hope that we’re not talking about either of them after the match, and instead discussing a terrific performance from Moyes and his team.
