The West Ham United fans were relentlessly criticised by ex-player Don Hutchison last week for demanding a more entertaining brand of football.
Just last week Don Hutchison, who played for West Ham for six years during two separate spells, mocked the ‘ungrateful’ Hammers fans and called for David Moyes to walk out of the London Stadium.
West Ham are actually doing well in the Premier League and Europe this season. We’re currently sitting in seventh spot in the table and have a last 16 Europa League tie with Freiburg to look forward to.
I completely understand why those looking in from the outside are baffled that large amounts of Hammers fans want Moyes out. However, take a closer look at the underlying performance metrics, and we are actually really lucky to be where we are this season.
The football served up by Moyes this season has been turgid – a dull brand of playing style that belongs in a bygone era.

Sure, he gets results on the most part but is football not an art? Is it purely just a results business? Well, this is where Hutchison has completely contradicted himself…
Don Hutchison contradicts himself after mocking West Ham fans
The former Hammer spent all of last week suggesting that our fans are ungrateful for demanding more entertainment from Moyes and his players.
However, he seems to have completely backtracked on his stance now, by quote tweeting a post from AC Milan star Rafael Leao on his X account suggesting that football fans must be entertained:
This is a man who has been digging out the West Ham fans for not showing enough respect to David Moyes!
You really couldn’t make it up could you, and it’s yet another reminder that the majority of football pundits today are purely out there to cause division and then subsequently spark interaction and debate.
Did Don Hutchison really believe what he was saying re Moyes and the West Ham fans’ perception of the Scot? Or did he just see an opportunity to get interactions on X? I would suggest that it was the latter and in fairness to him, he got exactly what he was after didn’t he!
