Dharmesh Sheth drops hugely exciting Rafa Benitez claim as David Moyes sack rumours refuse to go away

Dharmesh Sheth has made it very clear about where the West Ham United owners stand regarding the possibility of replacing David Moyes with Rafa Benitez.

West Ham manager David Moyes is definitely under pressure, and Rafa Benitez is a man who has been linked with taking over from the Scot at the London Stadium.

The 63-year-old is currently in charge of Celta Vigo, but it was claimed back in April that he was ready to come in and take the reins from Moyes, if we had lost to Fulham.

The Hammers won the game in the end, and the rest is history. Moyes guided us to our first major trophy since 1980, ending a painful 43-year wait in the process.

However, things have turned stale this season, and only a couple of week ago rumours were rife that Moyes and director of football Tim Steidten were clashing over potential new signings.

It seemed like the Scot was heading for the sack, before back-to-back wins against Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest eased the pressure on him…for now at least.

But what will happen if West Ham embark on another poor run of form? Could someone come in to replace him? And if so, what manager will the Hammers owners target?

Cold water poured on Rafa Benitez as potential David Moyes replacement

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has opened up on the current situation surrounding West Ham manager Moyes.

Sheth spoke to GIVEMESPORT, and suggested that if the Hammers are to go down a different route with a new manager, Benitez does not fit the bill:

“The Benitez one is interesting because I think this was before they brought in the technical director in Tim Steidten. Now, you would expect Tim Steidten in his role, not only to have a huge say in the players that arrive at the club but also who’s going to be managing these players. Now, Moyes is in the final year of his contract. We don’t know exactly what is going to happen, but West Ham, we do know, will probably have to sort this out sooner rather than later. Either they say to Moyes, we see you as the future, here’s a long-term contract, we want you to work alongside Tim Steidten and you work together. Or it will be a case of I’ll see out this year of my contract, I’ll go for a new challenge, everyone shakes hands and David Moyes leaves with his profile still very, very high and his stock still really, really high.”

That’s a huge relief. Benitez is yesterday’s man and the job he’s currently doing at Celta Vigo is evidence of just how far he has fallen off.

Vigo are currently sitting third from bottom in La Liga, having taken just seven points from 13 games so far.

Steidten’s presence at the London Stadium obviously means that whenever Moyes does go, the club will be targeting a young manager with a futuristic vision and a progressive, possession based footballing philosophy.

Rafa Benitez quite clearly doesn’t fit into that category, and it’s hugely encouraging to hear from Sheth that he most likely will not even be an option to replace David Moyes.
