Concerning claim highlights untenable David Moyes and Tim Steidten situation ahead of January window

A brand new David Moyes / Tim Steidten ‘friction’ claim has been made, with the West Ham United manager and director of football apparently set to butt heads.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, West Ham boss David Moyes and the club’s DOF Tim Steidten will undoubtedly both have specific targets in mind.

The 44-year-old German joined the Hammers in July of this year, but it was recently claimed that there is already a power struggle going on between him and Moyes.

Steidten was believed to have played a key role in the signings of Edson Alvarez, Mohammed Kudus and Konstantinos Mavropanos, with Moyes taking the lead on the James Ward-Prowse transfer.

The German and the Scot clearly have differing philosophies when it comes to player recruitment, and it seems as though that opinion clash could come to a head very soon indeed…

David Moyes / Tim Steidten clash incoming

Football Journliast Dean Jones has highlighted how the duo do not have the same philosophy when it comes to signing players.

Jones suggested that friction between Moyes and Steidten could be incoming, when speaking to GIVEMESPORT:

“I don’t think that what the club’s looking for is going to be the same as what David Moyes would be looking for in the January window. There could be new friction that’s caused on the back of that. I don’t think David Moyes is close to getting any guarantees over his future himself, so where do West Ham go here? They’re having to be very cautious as they tread into January about what they commit to because they really don’t know who the manager is going to be by the time we get to next season.”

This situation just seems to be totally untenable to me, if the rumours are indeed true of course.

If Moyes wants his team to play a certain way, but Steidten does not want to bring players who suit that particular system to the club, we’ll be in real trouble.

In my opinion, it’s clear to see that the relationship between the two will not work, and one or the other will have to leave.

If either David Moyes or Tim Steidten has to move on, my money is on the Scot being told to pack his bags.
