Declan Rice has spoken out after the World Cup exit as England and West Ham respond to midfielder’s powerful message.
It was another night of heartbreak with England for West Ham captain Rice.
With the World Cup seriously opening up there was a golden chance for the victors as England took on France on Saturday night.
The 23-year-old put in another imperious display against one of the best teams at the World Cup.
He was ferocious in the tackle throughout, winning the ball and setting England on their way for counter attacks.
In the end, though, France managed to edge a pulsating contest 2-1 to send the Three Lions home and Rice – after a week or so off to rest – back to West Ham.
It means West Ham’s legendary trio Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters will remain the only English Hammers to have tasted World Cup glory for another three and a half years at least.
After the game West Ham star Rice was praised by all and named one of three best players as England crashed out.
And now Rice has spoken out in a powerful message after the World Cup exit as England and West Ham respond.
“The greater the talent, the greater the aim,” Rice said on Twitter.
“The greater the aim, the greater the pain along the path to reaching it.
“This is all part of the journey to us being successful as a team. Thank you to everyone for your incredible support. We gave it absolutely everything.”
Both England and West Ham have responded to the Hammers skipper’s message.
“You did us proud, Dec,” West Ham posted on the club’s official account in response to the captain’s words alongside a heart emoji.
England also responded to the West Ham man, saying: “Great words Declan Rice.”
Rice will return to West Ham with a heavy heart again but his chest out and head held high.
David Moyes is expected to give the skipper around a week to 10 days off to rest before he returns to Rush Green ahead of the resumption of the Premier League on Boxing Day.
