Declan Rice has responded when asked if the World Cup is on his mind when going into tackles for West Ham United.
Rice has taken on much more responsibility this season, having been given the captain’s armband following Mark Noble’s retirement.
Rice was a huge influence for the Hammers on the pitch yesterday, and scored a magnificent goal – one that ended up earning us a point.

The 23-year-old was the best player on the pitch for West Ham yesterday. As usual, he was our go-to player for every attacking phase of play, and he left absolutely everything on the pitch for his team.
With a World Cup on the horizon though, could Dec be tempted to coast when playing for the Hammers? Not on your nelly!
Declan will always give 100 per cent for West Ham
Rice has been the beating heart of this Hammers team over the past three years.
His performances have been at an incredibly high level and his consistency really has been impressive, for both club and country.
Declan Rice spoke to reporters after West Ham drew with Southampton yesterday, and responded when asked whether there is ever a temptation to coast though matches with the World Cup on the horizon, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

If I didn’t go out there a give 100%, it would be disrespectful to West Ham. Injuries happen, and I would not wish it on anyone. You have to go out there and give 100%. You can’t shy out of tackles or headers. Obviously, there is a World Cup, but West Ham is the focus at the moment. There are so many important games for us.
Declan Rice really does give his absolute maximum every time he pulls on the West Ham shirt.
We should think ourselves lucky, considering some of the players out there who hanker for moves to so-called bigger clubs.
The onus is on the Hammers owners and David Moyes to match Dec’s ambition, if we are to have any chance of keeping him at the London Stadium.
Declan Rice clearly loves West Ham. He gives his all for us in every game, and as fans, that’s all that we can ask.
