West Ham United manager David Moyes has praised one player in particular for stepping up during what has been a really challenging period for the club.
David Moyes has guided his West Ham side through an incredibly difficult spell, and we’ve come out on the other side now, having won our last four games in all competitions.
The Hammers face Crystal Palace at home on Sunday, where a win would put us right in the mix for a top six finish, and Moyes provided an injury update on Jarrod Bowen when speaking to reporters today.
Bowen has been exceptional for West Ham this season, but another player has really stood up and taken responsibility recently.
Tomas Soucek has bagged three goals in his last three games for the Hammers, and has seven in 19 appearances to his name so far this season (Soccerbase).
And now Moyes has given him the praise that he so rightly deserves…

The Scot spoke to reporters this afternoon ahead of our clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
And Moyes absolutely raved about big Tomas Soucek after his fine recent form, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“I’m really pleased with Tomas’ goalscoring form. More importantly, his goals have been so important too. We needed somebody to step up and Tomas has been doing it right now. He scored a good number of goals in his first season here, and last season was a little bit quieter, but he’s back on it now which is really good for us.”
Think of it this way, had Soucek not scored his three goals in our last three games, we would have drawn with Nottingham Forest and Burnley in the Premier League and taken only a point from our Europa League clash with TSC Backa Topola.
We would all have a very different perspective on the season now, had that happened, and Moyes would be under intense pressure.
Soucek has received plenty of criticism from some sections of the Hammers fanbase over the past year or so, and I include myself in that.
However, he deserves a lot more respect than he gets. He puts his body on the line each and every time he puts on the claret and blue shirt.
And David Moyes rightly offered huge words of praise for the 28-year-old after his recent heroics. Well done big Tom.
