Lucas Paqueta received criticism from some sections of the West Ham fanbase after our defeat to Aston Villa yesterday, and now David Moyes has delivered his verdict on the Brazilian.
West Ham boss David Moyes has always shared just how much of a fan he is of Lucas Paqueta, and it’s little wonder as to why. However, it’s not always a one-way love-fest when it comes to Moyes and the Hammers star.

The Brazilian always tries to entertain the paying public but it must be said, he does need to be more selective as to when he showboats on the ball.

Paqueta found out the hard way yesterday that he needs to pick and choose his moments better.
In the 50th minute, Paqueta dribbled out of his own penalty area but rather than clear the ball, he needlessly shielded it from Boubacar Kamara and dallied in possession before making a shocking pass backwards that was intercepted by Ezri Konsa.
The Villa defender was then brought down inside the box by Edson Alvarez and the rest is history. Moyes was clearly unhappy after the match…
David Moyes makes Lucas Paqueta admission after West Ham United’s defeat to Aston Villa
The Hammers boss spoke to WHUFC.com after yesterday’s game.
Now, whilst he didn’t mention Paqueta by name, it was obvious who he was talking about. The Scot told reporters:

“I thought we did gift them goals, and certainly the second one was very disappointing with what we did there. We were one-nil down at the time and we had done OK.”
Paqueta’s mistake yesterday was hugely frustrating because the bottom line is that he just didn’t need to do it, It was totally unnecessary and the Hammers paid the price as a result.
The Brazilian will always be a maverick, and I would never advocate for him to lose the magic from his game in order to become a more functional defensive player.
However, he must rein it in a little bit, if he is to thrive at the London Stadium.
David Moyes undoubtedly would have given Lucas Paqueta a dressing down behind closed doors – something that the Brazilian would have been more than deserving of.
