David Moyes makes honest Lucas Paqueta admission after run of questionable displays

David Moyes has just made an extremely frank admission about West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta.

West Ham boss David Moyes brought Lucas Paqueta to the London Stadium from Lyon in the summer of 2022 for around £51 million, and despite his huge impact at the club, he has been played out of position this season.

The Hammers ace is best in a more central role, dictating the tempo of the game with his incredible skill and composure when in possession.

The Brazilian is a sensational player, and Moyes recently suggested, somewhat surprisingly, that he enjoys watching the midfielder showboat.

I just feel like he’s been kind of wasted out on the left wing this season. I get that his relationship with Emerson on that side of the pitch has blossomed but I still believe that he’s so much more dangerous when playing centrally.

And Moyes has now spoken out about exactly why he has been playing the 26-year-old out wide on the left…

David Moyes makes Lucas Paqueta admission

The Scot addressed the media ahead of our clash with Wolves tomorrow, and spoke about the potential need for a new left winger in January.

Whilst doing so, Moyes admitted that he has been playing Paqueta out of position, as quoted by the Evening Standard:

“We’ve been a bit short on the left. Paqueta, it’s not his position but I think he’s done a good job for us there. It’s good competition we’ve got at the moment. We’ve tried to get our best players in the team and we’ve just about done that and it’s kept us with some really good results.”

It’s good to know that Moyes is keen to sign a new left winger, because I really want to see Paqueta back playing centrally.

The former Lyon star is so vital to us, wherever he plays in all fairness, but he’s so much more of a threat when he’s involved in the match in the middle of the park.

We are not far away from having a complete squad in my opinion. Moyes needs to bring in a left winger, a striker, a defensive midfielder, a right-back and a left-back.

Hopefully he manages to get that done over the course of the next two transfer windows.

And if David Moyes manages to get a left wing signing sorted in January, he will be able to play Lucas Paqueta in his correct position once again.
