David Moyes make inadvertent admission about 3 strikers that will really frustrate West Ham fans

West Ham United manager David Moyes has just inadvertently admitted that he has no interest in playing two strikers together.

The West Ham fans have been crying out for Moyes to use two forwards up front together for quite some time now.

However, it still hasn’t happened yet. The fact Moyes is still yet to deploy two strikers together really is baffling considering the fact that his last two forward signings – Danny Ings and Gianluca Scamacca cannot play isolated through the middle on their own.

The one striker who is capable of that job is Michail Antonio, so essentially the only time West Ham should set up with just one forward is when the 32-year-old starts.

It appears as though Moyes doesn’t see it that way though…

David Moyes makes strange claim about three West Ham strikers

The Hammers boss spoke to reporters yesterday ahead of our huge clash with Aston Villa at the London Stadium this afternoon.

And Moyes responded when asked who he thinks will lead the line against the Villans today, as quoted by the Evening Standard:

“We brought Gianluca in to give Antonio competition but then Gianluca had an injury and we weren’t scoring, we couldn’t get any goals from any of them, so we went down the route of getting someone tried and tested. That’s the way it is, I can see why you’re asking because we’ve got three and how’s that going to work if it goes into one? It’s not easy to work out who’s not going to play and who is going to play but the way we’ve been playing, we’re needing to find a way to get better in many aspects.”

I just find it utterly bizarre that a manager who has overseen more than 1,000 games cannot see that Scamacca and Ings can’t be used as one up top on their own.

They have both played, and flourished, with strike partners throughout their respective careers.

Michail Antonio can do the job of playing up top on his own, and that’s why Moyes loves him so much. The 32-year-old forward runs the channels, keeps the opposing centre-backs busy with his physicality and is always looking to run in behind.

He won’t chip in with goals regularly but he will keep the opposing defenders on their toes. The fact that David Moyes isn’t even contemplating starting Ings and Antonio, Scamacca and Antonio or Ings and Scamacca together for West Ham is hugely frustrating.

Let’s just hope that the comments were somewhat of a red herring and that he has a surprise up his sleeve for us come two o’clock this afternoon.
