David Moyes has let the cat out the bag on which West Ham United player returned to pre-season slightly overweight.

When speaking on The Big Interview with Graham Hunter before the start of the 2022/23 season, the Hammers boss admitted that one player returned to the club overweight after the summer break:
I don’t think players are now coming back in the condition they were years ago. It used to be normal for players to come back overweight and to lose the weight. It was the bin-bag culture where they’d sweat it out. Nearly everyone came back overweight at that time, but players are incredibly fit now, I think we have one player who has come back slightly overweight, but the rest of them are all good.
It was never disclosed as to which player that was.
But in fairness, nigh on every single West Ham player made a really sluggish start to the season.
One player who seemed to be miles off his usual levels was Jarrod Bowen.
And now it seems as though Moyes might have let the cat out the bag…

Jarrod Bowen scored a brilliant goal for the Hammers last night against Anderlecht at the London Stadium in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
The 25-year-old seems to be getting back to somewhere near his best form.
Moyes spoke to reporters after the game and praised Bowen for his recent return to form, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
He’s getting a real consistency. Maybe he started a little slower, but he’s back closer to his form now. He’s looking like he’s going to score and create chances too. He’s in better condition now than he was at the start too, it was difficult for the players who were involved in the internationals over the summer.
We’re almost certain that the player Moyes was talking about before the season started was Bowen.
And Moyes’s comments last night confirms that in my opinion.
I have been calling for Bowen to be dropped for quite some time, but in fairness to him, he as proven me wrong over the past couple of weeks.
Moyes deserves a lot of credit for sticking with the West Ham attacker as well.

The good news it that the 25-year-old has turned things around though. And he now looks just like his old self.
