David Moyes has left the door open for a centre-forward role for 26-year-old West Ham United ace.

West Ham have really struggled for goals in the Premier League so far this season.

The Hammers did score four against Nottingham Forest on Saturday but we still have a long way to go, if we are to avoid relegation this term.

Gianluca Scamacca has suffered with numerous different injuries this season whilst Michail Antonio has regressed badly, and Danny Ings only moved to the London Stadium in January.

It seems as though Moyes might just have another option up his sleeve though…

David Moyes says 26-year-old West Ham ace could play up front

The Scot was speaking to the media yesterday ahead of our FA Cup clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford tonight.

And Moyes responded when asked about the imminent return of summer signing Maxwel Cornet, as quoted by Claret and Hugh:

“I don’t know about pecking order but, where I see him fitting in is that he can do a couple of roles. When you look back to how he played at Burnley, he played a couple of roles, he played almost alongside Wout Weghorst as another striker.”

However, Moyes then suggested that out wide on the left is actually the most likely position that Cornet will play:

“He’s played quite often off the left – that’s where I’d probably say he fits. He’s tended to get more goals from wide, that was the reason we brought him in. I’m thinking that if we could get this boy to get us eight or ten goals it would add to what the total would be. We obviously lost him early on. He was a bit behind when he came in because he hadn’t trained at Burnley much before we signed him. That’s where I see him, positionally, as where I see him playing.”

I actually wouldn’t mind seeing Cornet operate as a centre-forward every now and again.

Moyes converted Michail Antonio from a winger to a striker, so there is no reason why he wouldn’t consider doing the same with the Ivorian.

First and foremost though, getting him back playing consistently for West Ham will be the main priority for David Moyes, whatever position that may be in.
