West Ham United have a clear Thursday / Sunday problem going on right now, with David Moyes struggling to juggle the Europa League and Premier League games.

David Moyes has guided his side to two wins from three in the Europa League, and West Ham are currently sitting in ninth spot in the Premier League table.

However, our domestic form has been poor over the past five or six weeks, and we have particularly struggled since European football began in September.

After our three Europa League games this season, the Hammers have taken just one point from the three Premier League games that followed them.

It’s a clear problem that is plaguing us, and it didn’t happen last season because the lack of quality we faced in the Conference League enabled Moyes to field weaker sides on the Thursday night.

That’s quite simply not the case this season. However, I don’t believe that the reason we’re struggling with the Thursday / Sunday games has anything to do with fatigue…

David Moyes is actually to blame for West Ham’s Thursday / Sunday problem

The Scot has a terrible habit of banging on about how hard it is to balance Thursday night Europa League games and Sunday afternoon Premier League games.

In every press conference after a European clash, Moyes mentions how tough it is. Well guess what – if you tell someone something enough times, they will begin to believe it.

Firstly, let’s have it right, there is no difference between playing on Thursday and Sunday or Wednesday and Saturday.

There are three days between both fixtures and the only time a journalist has ever asked Moyes what the difference is, he said ‘I can’t explain it, but there is a difference’.

I just feel like David Moyes has created a problem for West Ham, or at least a certain air of negativity, that quite simply wouldn’t have been there had he not even mentioned the Thursday / Sunday games.

Maybe, just maybe, Moyes should stop telling anyone who’ll listen how hard it is to balance European and Premier League games, and then the players might not play like it’s an issue.
