David Moyes has given a bizarre response when asked about West Ham star Lucas Paqueta’s social media posts.

There was a time in football when club’s would give regular detailed updates on players and their injuries.

But for some reason – certainly at West Ham under David Moyes – it’s like the official secrets act.

In some ways it’s understandable ahead of a game. Moyes is old school and doesn’t like giving West Ham’s opposition a leg up when it comes to knowing team news.

And putting specific timescales on injuries can put unnecessary pressure on players in recovery.

Hammers fans barely get updates nowadays via the official channels so rely on news from other sources and, quite often, the players themselves.

The latest being Brazilian magnifico Lucas Paqueta.

West Ham’s talisman suffered a recurrence of a calf injury in the FA Cup clash with Bristol City two weeks ago. Initial reports stated Paqueta would be out for a month.

Then it was then claimed he could miss as many as two months. But Paqueta took to social media to rubbish those reports.

Moyes gives bizarre response on Paqueta posts

The 26-year-old then filmed himself doing weight training in the gym and posted it online.

West Ham’s playmaker has been on social media again this week, posting encouraging videos showing him doing specific leg and fitness exercises while staying with best friend and Real Madris star Vinicius Junior.

So when the Scot faced the press this week, it was inevitable he would be quizzed on Paqueta and his injury comeback.

But Moyes gave a bizarre response when asked about West Ham star Paqueta’s social media posts.

West Ham’s manager said he had no interest or idea about the posts or what exercises his £80m asset is doing and where.

‘Couldn’t tell you…’

“I have no idea, no idea what I could say to you on that (Paqueta’s social posts of his recovery),” Moyes said in his presser.

“I don’t look at social media so I couldn’t tell you what pictures have been posted. Couldn’t tell you what he’s doing in the gym, couldn’t tell you if it was work which makes him get himself ready faster or if he’s needing his tendon injury to heal a bit longer.

“So, I’m sorry I couldn’t give you anymore on that no.”

It’s one thing playing your cards close to your chest. But Paqueta is still weeks away so this suggest Moyes genuinely has no idea what Paqueta is doing or the status of his injury.

Either that or he was just in no mood to discuss it.

He may not be into social media but he clearly would have been briefed by West Ham’s press team about Paqueta’s posts.

Come on Moyesy stop being such a curmudgeon! Supporters want to be kept informed.
