David Moyes admits he was worried about one West Ham United player before the Manchester United game last night.

West Ham beat Manchester United 1-0, with the likes of Nayef Aguerd, Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek coming back into David Moyes‘ starting XI.

Aguerd is someone who has been criticised by Moyes recently. However, he was back to his best last night, and put in a top-class performance against what is a very dangerous Manchester United attack.

After Moyes’s comments on Aguerd last night though, the Moroccan’s performance seems even more impressive…

David Moyes raves about Nayef Aguerd after West Ham vs Manchester United

The Scot addressed the media last night during his post-match press conference after the Hammers beat Man United 1-0.

And Moyes responded when asked by reporters what he thought of Nayef Aguerd’s performance, as quoted by Football.London:

“I thought he did very well tonight because you’re up against good opponents. You could see, he was the one I was a bit worried about. He was sick, badly sick and he is a boy who doesn’t have any weight at all. Him not being well would mean he was always going to be sort of down. I thought tonight, he looked at the end with his socks down and it’s not like him. He’s a really talented footballer, but still getting used to the rigours and what it means to be a defender in the Premier League, which means you’ve got to be blocking and defending all of the time because there are so many good players in the Premier League. I thought he played very well tonight.”

Aguerd is clearly a real talent, but he has made a few mistakes here and there over the past month or so.

He was brilliant once again last night, and we need to see that more from him now.

The fact that he wasn’t feeling 100% physically makes his solid performance even more impressive.

Moyes was clearly delighted with the West Ham centre-back’s display against Manchester United, and rightly so. He’s capable of playing like that in every single game. I think he’ll get better and better after his first season with the club once he’s fully adjusted to the speed of the Premier League.
