Danny Gabbidon was on co-commentary duty last night, and suggested that one West Ham United player was to blame for setting the tone for our shocking FA Cup display against Bristol City.
West Ham really were awful at Ashton Gate last night, and Bristol City thoroughly deserved to progress through to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Hammers boss David Moyes was visibly irate with the performance of his players, and he admitted after the game that he needs to make a couple of signings before the January transfer window slams shut.
The fringe players like Maxwel Cornet, Danny Ings and Said Benrahma quite simply were not good enough, and they all need to be shipped out this winter.
Konstantinos Mavropanos was another player who failed to cover himself in glory, and was responsible for the goal that we conceded.
The Greek centre-back really wasn’t at the races at all, and his mistake inside the first three minutes ended up costing us dearly…

1 West Ham player to blame for shocking FA Cup display
Danny Gabbidon was on co-comms duty at Ashton Gate last night, and he was highly critical of Mavropanos.
The former Hammer suggested that the 26-year-old was to blame for setting the tone for our awful performance, when commentating on the BBC last night (January 16th, 9:13pm):
“I think he set the tone for this West Ham performance Mavropanos. He didn’t start the game well and it’s been a continuation since then.”
I make Gabbidon right, it really was schoolboy stuff from Dinos.
I actually think that the 26-year-old is a very solid defender, and he has all of the tools needed to succeed at the very highest level of the game. He proved that with his exceptional display against Arsenal at the end of last month.
However, it’s clear to see that he needs to improve upon his concentration levels really fast, if he is to enjoy a successful Premier League career at the London Stadium.
His performance for West Ham against Bristol City in the FA Cup quite simply wasn’t good enough, it really is as simple as that.
