One West Ham United player is thought to be a last-gasp target for Crystal Palace on transfer deadline day.

Transfer deadline day has all the makings of a whirlwind 12 hours or so for West Ham.

So deadline day is finally upon us, and West Ham have one final shot at turning a 9/10 window into the perfect 10.

Julen Lopetegui has worked wonders at the London Stadium this summer, but the West Ham head coach needs to make at least one more top quality signing, if he is to guide us to success on all fronts this season.

The Hammers fans are buzzing with excitement about what the future holds for us, and Lopetegui has insisted that he’s after even more new signings.

However, the Spaniard will have to get rid of some of the fringe players first, before he can even think about bringing any new faces to the club.

And it seems like it will only be a matter of time before one of those players leaves the London Stadium.

The beauty of moving on two or three players today is that Lopetegui will then be able to get out and further strengthen his ranks at the London Stadium.

The Hammers desperately need to bring Carlos Soler to the club before the transfer window closes.

However, we won’t be able to sign the Spaniard without shifting some serious money from the wage-bill first.

And that’s why the latest update is so important.

According to football journalist Ryan Taylor, Crystal Palace have attempted a late hijack of Southampton’s move to sign Maxwel Cornet.

And it is suggested that talks between the two clubs are progressing well.

Maxwel Cornet a disaster from the start for West Ham

Maxwel Cornet joined West Ham from Burnley for £17.5 million, in the summer of 2022.

The Ivory Coast international earns £64k-a-week at the London Stadium (Salaray Sport), so moving him on this summer will free up some money from the wage-bill.

Since he moved to the London Stadium from Turf Moor two years ago, Cornet has made just 34 appearances for West Ham, and has been given only 946 minutes of action.

He has endured plenty of injury problems, and his career with the Hammers just never got started.

Hopefully a move to Palace, or Southampton for that matter, will be a good one for him.

West Ham getting rid of Maxwel Cornet on deadline day will be crucial.
