West Ham United have been dealt a blow with Tottenham Hotspur said to be leading the race to sign Santiago Gimenez.

According to Dean Jones who has been speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are in pole position to sign West Ham transfer target Santiago Gimenez in the January transfer window.

Hammers boss David Moyes is thought to be on the hunt for a new striker this winter, and the prolific 22-year-old Feyenoord hitman is one of the names on the Scot’s radar.

Michail Antonio has been absolutely woeful this season, with just two goals in 13 games to his name (Transfermarkt).

A big upgrade is required on the 33-year-old at the London Stadium, and Gimenez would be a terrific option for us.

However, Tottenham seem to be ready to deal the Hammers a huge blow in the race for the Mexican’s signature…

West Ham and Tottenham chasing Santiago Gimenez

The Feyenoord forward is attracting attention from all over Europe it seems – especially the Premier League.

I would absolutely love him to move to the London Stadium – he’d be the perfect centre-forward for us.

However, Dean Jones has outlined how Spurs are in a stronger position than the Hammers to sign the 22-capped Mexico international:

“Santiago Gimenez is causing all sorts of fuss at the moment, and a lot of recruitment teams across the Premier League are tracking his situation. From what I have been able to gather so far, a move to Tottenham would be a lot more plausible than a move to West Ham or Fulham because this is a player that is already used to the Champions League and feels he has a place at the very top of the game.”

Arne Slot described Gimenez as ‘special’, when speaking to Feyenoord.nl back in April, and he’s bang on the money.

The 22-year-old is an elite centre-forward, and has bagged an incredible 15 goals and three assists in just 14 games for Feyenoord so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Santiago Gimenez is an elite striker, and it’s little wonder why both West Ham and Tottenham want to sign him. He is quick, incredibly strong and a superb finisher. The Mexican has all of the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League.

However, the outlook seems bleak for the Hammers. GIVEMESPORT claim that Feyenoord want around £60 million for the striker.

And now Tottenham are apparently in pole position for his signature. Losing out to Spurs in the race for Gimenez would be a really bitter pill to swallow. Oh well, on to the next one…
