BBC journalist Simon Stone makes big new David Moyes claim amid conflicting reports over his West Ham future.

There have once again been growing calls for Moyes to be sacked following the defeat to rivals Spurs at the weekend.

The Hammers are in the bottom three and staring relegation in the face having won just five of their 23 games this season.

While West Ham boast one of the better defences in the top flight, scoring goals has been a serious issue all term.

Those calling for Moyes to be sacked will point to the fact the malaise in West Ham’s Premier League form stretches back over a year with just 14 wins in 51 matches in that time.

After allegedly keeping his job by winning the game against Everton dubbed ‘El Sackico’ last month, Moyes is now feeling the heat once again.

There has been claim and counter claim about the Scot’s position since the defeat to Spurs.

Some national outlets such as The Telegraph have reported Moyes’ job is safe. Others like Times claim he will be sacked if West Ham don’t beat Nottingham Forest at home this weekend.

Meanwhile, Rafael Benitez is said to have been lined up and is interested in replacing Moyes as Hammers boss according to The Daily Mail.

Now BBC journalist Simon Stone has made a new Moyes claim amid the conflicting reports over his West Ham future.

The reporter has stated that his West Ham sources have told him the board remain fully behind Moyes and are giving him their “100 per cent backing”.

Stone claims the board still appreciate the job Moyes has done and believe he has been hampered by injuries this season.

“West Ham boss David Moyes still has the full support of the club despite his team dropping into the Premier League relegation zone over the weekend,” Stone reports for BBC Sport.

“Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Tottenham left Moyes’ side in 18th place in the table. It has raised questions over the Scot’s future, with some suggestions he could be sacked if West Ham lose Saturday’s home game with Nottingham Forest.

“BBC Sport has been told the situation is not as clear-cut as that and Moyes retains the board’s 100% backing…

“Moyes knows that West Ham’s current position is not what was expected after an unprecedented summer transfer spend, even though the squad has been badly hit by injuries.

“It is acknowledged how much good work Moyes has done since he returned for a second spell as manager in December 2019, guiding them clear of relegation trouble before taking them into Europe through their league position in successive seasons for the first time in the club’s history.

“Moyes knows that West Ham’s current position is not what was expected after an unprecedented summer transfer spend, even though the squad has been badly hit by injuries.

“However, West Ham will learn their last-16 opponents in the Europa Conference League on Friday and next week face Manchester United in the FA Cup fifth round.

“And the belief is, with 15 games to go, Moyes can still turn the current league situation around.”
