Aaron Cresswell says one West Ham United player deserves a chance after working really hard in training this season.

West Ham boss David Moyes made numerous changes last night, with the likes of Aaron Cresswell and Flynn Downes coming into the team.

Downes, 24, has had to make do with hardly any action this season. Before last night’s clash with City, the £14 million signing from Swansea City had played just 1,241 minutes of action in total for the Hammers, and only 487 of those minutes have come in the Premier League.

The tenacious, tough tackling midfielder was handed some much needed game time last night though.

And he got praised by one of his teammates after the game…

Aaron Cresswell praises West Ham midfielder Flynn Downes

The experienced Hammers left-back spoke to WHUFC.com after our 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad last night.

And Cresswell highlighted how Downes has been working hard and waiting patiently for his big chance all season long:

“Flynn Downes has worked hard all season and he was just waiting for that chance. Obviously with Tomas, Dec and Lucas it’s not easy [to get in the team], but I thought he did well tonight in a difficult game to come into. We’ve got a big squad and a lot of games coming up, so I’m sure there will be a lot of rotation.”

Downes is a far superior footballer to Tomas Soucek in my opinion.

The problem that Downes has is that the Czech Republic international will always be one of the first names on the team-sheet while David Moyes is still in charge because of his aerial ability.

Aaron Cresswell’s comments on Downes proves that he’s the kind of character we need at West Ham.

Hopefully it won’t be too long before he’s playing regularly for the Hammers.
