Maxwel Cornet not being given a single minute of action by David Moyes for West Ham against Manchester City last night was na absolute joke.

West Ham took on Manchester City at the Etihad last night, and David Moyes fielded a much weakened team after a spate of food poisoning engulfed the Hammers camp, yet Maxwel Cornet still didn’t get a kick.

Signed from Burnley for £17.5 million in the summer (Sky Sports), the attacker has really struggled to establish himself at the London Stadium so far this campaign.

The 26-year-old winger missed five months of the season with a troublesome knee injury, but returned to action in March and boldly declared that he possesses something that no other West Ham player does – real pace.

The Ivory Coast International is right about that – the Hammers are a side desperately devoid of pace, and that really showed against Man City last night.

The fact that Moyes fielded a weakened side is fine by me – we were never going to win the game anyway. However, Cornet not even getting a sniff really was bizarre…

David Moyes made one baffling decision during Manchester City vs West Ham clash

The fact that the Scot didn’t even bring Cornet on from the bench last night was utterly baffling to me.

The 26-year-old has been used so sparingly since he returned to training a couple of months ago.

He hasn’t been given the chance to build up any kind of substantial minutes because Moyes has been bringing him on with literally minutes remaining in games.

However, last night was a new low for the 26-year-old winger – Moyes left him on the bench entirely.

What an absolute joke. The fact that he didn’t start the game baffles me if I’m honest. With a game plan of sitting back and hitting Man City in the counter surely it would have made sense to start the quickest player at the club?

It must be almost impossible for Cornet to get any rhythm at the moment, when he is hardly playing.

With the sickness bug that spread around the squad, the Manchester City vs West Ham clash last night would have been the ideal time for Moyes to throw him in from the start, or at least give him 30 minutes action.

As per usual though, the Scot didn’t cease to amaze and left the 26-year-old on the bench all night long! What an utterly bizarre move from the Hammers boss.
