West Ham United take on Freiburg in a vitally important Europa League last-16 tie out in Germany this evening.

Freiburg have already been beaten twice by West Ham United in the Europa League group stages this season.

David Moyes has turned things around over the past 10 days or so, with wins over Brentford and Everton in the Premier League.

However, the Hammers need a positive result in Germany tonight in to show that we really have progressed and made genuine improvements as a team.

Freiburg have actually been in poor form in the Bundesliga leading up to the game, with a return of just two points from their last six games, although they drew 2-2 with German giants Bayern Munich last time out.

Moyes will undoubtedly name the strongest team available to him tonight, but there may well be one or two very talented youngsters included in the squad as well…

West Ham youngster trains with first-team ahead of Freiburg clash

Exceptionally talented young starlet Lewis Orford has been joining in with the training sessions ahead of the vitally important Europa League clash tonight.

He can be seen training with the senior team on the West Ham website (picture 5/38).

The central midfielder has bagged four goals and five assists in 22 games for the under-21s this season (Transfermarkt), and he has undoubtedly be one of the standout performers for Steve Potts’ side.

Back in 2022, he was named as the Hammers’ most exciting young player, and one of the Premier League’s top 20 best young talents.

Lewis Orford has absolutely everything needed to go on and become a regular starter for the Hammers in the Premier League and in Europe. As long as he continues to work hard and applies himself properly off the pitch, he’ll undoubtedly have a very exciting future at the highest level of the game.

The 18-year-old getting some experience of training with the West Ham senior team ahead of the clash with Freiburg will be invaluable for him in the long run. I don’t think we’ll see him play any minutes tonight, but even if he’s on the bench it will be great for him.
