Opinion: 25-year-old West Ham man should be dropped for Tottenham clash after poor form

The time could be right for David Moyes to drop Jarrod Bowen for the West Ham vs Tottenham clash at the London Stadium tonight.

The 25-year-old has been in really poor form for the Hammers during the first four games of the season.

He did break his goalscoring duck against Viborg at the London Stadium just under two weeks ago but as far as his domestic form goes, he just hasn’t been good enough.

His celebration after scoring against Viborg just didn’t sit right with me either. He was clearly having a pop at the fans for how we’ve criticised him in recent weeks.

Or maybe that was just my perception but either way, I really haven’t been impressed with Bowen’s performances this term. He has been so far off the pace.

His performance against Aston Villa on Sunday was another shocker and it was truly baffling that David Moyes kept him on the pitch for the entirety of the game.

Before we went 1-0 up, he was through on goal but he kept his head down and had his shot blocked in the end. Had Bowen looked up he would have seen Said Benrahma in acres of space with the open net at his mercy.

Jarrod Bowen needs to be dropped for West Ham vs Tottenham

Perhaps it’s time for David Moyes to give Maxwel Cornet a chance on the right wing.

The Scot could even use Michail Antonio on the right wing and play Gianluca Scamacca through the middle.

As things stand, it seems to me like Bowen thinks he’s untouchable and is guaranteed to be in the West Ham starting XI week in, week out.

And as a result, he may have got a little complacent.

Moyes can change all of that by dropping Bowen for the West Ham vs Tottenham clash tonight.

Leaving him on the bench might end up being the best thing for him and should give him the hunger needed to get back to his best.

Bowen bagged 12 goals and 12 assists in 36 Premier League games for West Ham last season (Transfermarkt). He’s miles away from that kind of form right now, and a game or two starting from the bench may not be a bad thing at all.

Whatever happens, the Hammers desperately need to win against Spurs tonight…or not lose at the very least.

And if Moyes is brave enough to drop Bowen, we believe that West Ham may well be able to cause a surprise against Tottenham at the London Stadium.
