There’s confusion over the availability of absolutely key Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold for the West Ham clash.

West Ham and Liverpool go head-to-head on Sunday after getting their Europa League campaigns off to winning starts with respective 3-1 comeback victories in midweek.

Depending on results elsewhere, West Ham could go back into the top four of the fledgling table with a win at Anfield.

And Liverpool could go top of the table.

Both David Moyes and Jurgen Klopp made sweeping changes to their West Ham and Liverpool sides for the European matches.

Ahead of the game West Ham have doubts over Aaron Cresswell and Jarrod Bowen.

Liverpool had look set to be boosted by the return of a homegrown hero.

But there’s confusion over the availability of absolutely key Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold for the West Ham clash.

Earlier this week The Athletic claimed Alexander-Arnold could be set to return to the team for the Premier League game against West Ham.

But comments from Klopp in the wake of the win over LASK suggest Alexander-Arnold may not be ready to return just yet.

Alexander-Arnold only fit enough for solo training programme ahead of Hammers match

When asked about juggling his squad between Europe and the Premier League ahead of the game against the Hammers, Klopp – as reported by The Mirror – said: “I love the squad and I love the depth. For a squad still without Thiago, no Trent and no Conor Bradley we can still change 11 names. It’s absolutely crazy.”

A report from The Echo says a return against West Ham is ‘possible’ but claims the Liverpool pass master has only been able to train alone as he follows an individual rehabilitation plan in the build-up to the game.

If Alexander-Arnold is missing from the Reds side then it would clearly give West Ham a major boost.

He is one of the most talented players in world football when it comes to his passing range and delivery both in open play and from set pieces.

Ironically he is one of the few players who can hold a candle to West Ham star James Ward-Prowse in that regard.

And Klopp has been raving about the new Hammers midfielder, Moyes and the West Ham project ahead of the game.
