West Ham face anxious wait on scan results of Angelo Ogbonna injury as centre-back search becomes desperate

West Ham United boss David Moyes faces an anxious wait on the scan results from an injury picked up by Angelo Ogbonna just minutes into the pre-season game against Celtic.

West Ham’s key defender appeared to pull his hamstring just over five minutes into the game and was replaced by Issa Diop.

It is a worrying blow for Moyes with the start of the new Premier League season just three weeks away.

West Ham face anxious wait on Ogbonna scan results

According to the likes of West Ham insider ExWHUemployee, Ogbonna will be sent for a scan on Monday to determine the extent of the injury.

“We can confirm that Italian centre back Angelo Ogbonna will have a scan to find out the extent of the injury he sustained in the first few minutes of the impressive win over Celtic,” ExWHUemployee said on The West Ham Way Patreon site.

“The club have not made a comment yet and will obviously know more themselves on Monday.”

Moyes admits defensive issues are cause for concern

Even the least serious hamstring grade injury could keep the Italian out for up to a month.

Moyes told he was not happy with what he saw from his side defensively against Celtic and admitted they were lucky not to concede more than two goals.

Fabian Balbuena has left the club and there remain big doubts in some quarters over Diop’s ability to perform to a consistently high level.

Many West Ham fans also feel Craig Dawson looks less assured when he does not have Ogbonna alongside him.
