David Moyes shared a big fitness update today, and suggested that key man Nayef Aguerd could be fit for the Arsenal vs West Ham clash.

The 26-year-old defender joined the Hammers from Rennes in the summer transfer window for around £30 million according to Sky Sports.

At the time, that seemed like a very good deal for the East London outfit, considering Aguerd’s quality and the fact that he was incredibly physically robust during his time in Ligue 1 and before that.

Unfortunately for him, his West Ham career is still yet to take off, having suffered an ankle injury during a pre-season clash with Rangers in July.

And thing got worse for Aguerd out in Qatar during the World Cup, when he suffered a thigh injury when playing for Morocco.

And at the time it was suggested that he could be out for around four weeks. That prognosis seemed to be well wide of the mark though, when he returned to the starting lineup for Morocco’s semi-final clash with France.

However, Aguerd didn’t end up making the game due to not feeling well before kick-off.

So will he be fit for the Arsenal game?

David Moyes provides injury update on Nayef Aguerd

The Scot was speaking to reporters today, and responded when asked whether the 26-year-old centre-back will be fit to face the Gunners on Boxing Day, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

Nayef had a virus and an injury, so they were reasons for why he came off and didn’t start. He’ll be back in tomorrow, so we’ll see how he is. We wanted him a year before and waited a long time to get him. He’s a really good footballer so hopefully he’ll improve us in the second half of the season.

If Aguerd is feeling ok physically , there is no reason why he shouldn’t start for West Ham against Arsenal.

He was ready to start nine days ago for his country after all!

David Moyes’ update on Nayef Aguerd is a positive one as far as I’m concerned.

We really need him against Arsenal, what with their awesome attacking options.
