The fact that one player started for West Ham United yesterday after a big revelation from David Ornstein proves just how wide of the mark David Moyes can be with his team selection at times.
David Moyes chose to start Pablo Fornals on the left wing for West Ham against Fulham yesterday, but the Spaniard was hooked at half-time.
It was weird to see the Hammers boss start Fornals against Fulham, and that decision by Moyes seemed to be an even stranger one when David Ornstein broke the news this morning that the 27-year-old was unwell and suffering with a virus.
So if that was indeed true, why didn’t Maxwel Cornet start in place of the Spaniard? We all know that the Ivorian is the polar opposite to flavour of the month with Moyes, but surely he’d have been of better use to us than an unfit Fornals.
The former Burnley man must realise that his time at the London Stadium is done. If he can’t get in the starting lineup ahead of someone who is unwell, then what hope does he have?

Ornstein is the world’s most reliable football reporter. Does he ever actually get anything wrong? I really don’t think he does.
So we have to take his claim that Fornals was unwell and suffering with a virus as fact.
Taking that into account, what on earth was Moyes doing playing the Spaniard from the start? It was just an utterly baffling call, especially when he overlooked Cornet and Said Benrahma.
It’s not like Fornals has been setting the world on fire recently either – in fact, he has been utterly dreadful every time he has taken to the pitch.
I have no doubts that the 27-year-old will be moved on in January, or the summer transfer window at the latest, and Moyes is apparently prepared to sell him for around £8 million.
And that in itself makes the fact that David Moyes started Fornals for West Ham against Fulham all the more mind-boggling.
