West Ham United may well have made an absolute howler by selling Felipe Anderson back to Lazio 29 months ago.
Felipe Anderson left West Ham to link up with his ex-club Lazio in the summer of 2021, after struggling for game-time under Hammers boss David Moyes.
Moyes decided to sell the Brazilian back to Lazio in the summer of 2021 for just £4 million – an absolute bargain for the Serie A side despite his poor form for West Ham at the time.
Anderson looked scintillating for us during the 2018/19 season, with nine goals and four assists to his name in 36 Premier League games (Transfermarkt).
The Hammers signed the 30-year-old from Lazio in the summer of 2018 for around £36 million (Sky Sports), and after his first season at the London Stadium, it seemed like we had a real player on our hands.
However, Anderson tailed off badly after that, and he was moved back to Lazio for a £4 million loss 2.5 years ago, after his unsuccessful loan spell with Porto during the 2020/21 season.
In spite of that, it now looks like Moyes made a big error by selling him back to Lazio…

West Ham made big Felipe Anderson mistake
Since returning to Lazio, the South American winger has bagged 20 goals and 23 assists for the Serie A side (Transfermarkt).
And his fine form for Lazio has piqued the interest of their fellow Serie A sides Juventus and Napoli, according to a report from Tuttomercatoweb.
Should Anderson move to either of those clubs, Moyes’s mistake to sell him for such a small fee in 2021 will be laid bare.
Can you imagine if we had kept the 30-year-old? We could really use someone like him now on the left wing, especially with Lucas Paqueta injured and Mohammed Kudus set to be unavailable for four or five weeks due to his participation at AFCON with Ghana.
Felipe Anderson is clearly an elite attacker player, and Moyes should have looked past his poor run of form for West Ham.
I just feel like we never got the best out of the pacy winger, and that’s a real shame isn’t it.
