West Ham United fans are calling for David Moyes to make some new signings in the January transfer window.
West Ham manager David Moyes is apparently a really busy man just nine days into the January transfer window.
The Hammers boss is said to be working really hard alongside David Sullivan and director of football Tim Steidten to bring in reinforcements this month, according to Claret and Hugh.
It is actually claimed by the club insiders that we are ‘nowhere near to signing anybody’ though, as our fruitless transfer search continues to lead up blind alleys.
Recent reports have suggested that the addition of a new striker features heavily on Moyes’s wish-list, with Hugo Ekitike and Akor Adams both targets for the Scot.
Listen, I firmly believe that Moyes’s squad needs to be strengthened. The likes of Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals, Danny Ings, Aaron Cresswell and Ben Johnson all need to be moved on.
Moyes then needs to bring in proper squad players who are ready to sufficiently challenge for a place in the starting XI.
Here’s the thing though, I’m not sure that the January window is the best time to make big changes to the squad. It might just be better for Moyes to be patient and wait it out until the summer…

West Ham transfer window panic buys a big no-no
Let’s be honest here, it’s very rare that January signings end up working out. The arrivals of Jarrod Bowen and Jesse Lingard in 2020 and 2021 respectively are the obvious exceptions to that rule, but look what happened last year when Moyes brought Danny Ings to the London Stadium.
The 31-year-old will go down as one of our worst ever signings, and before him there were the likes of Samir Nasri, Jordan Hugill, Jose Fonte and Sam Byram who all joined us mid-season and went on to really disappoint at the London Stadium.
In my view, Moyes will be better served in keeping his powder dry for the summer, rather than panic buy now and then have limited funds at the end of the season.
The Scot can then bring in a top-class centre-forward in the summer, rather than someone who’s not top of his list now.
There is absolutely no guarantee that someone will come into the club in January and hit the ground running. Also, Kudus will be back from AFCON in around four or five weeks time at the latest.
Antonio will be back from injury in a similar timeframe, whilst Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen hopefully won’t be out for too long at all. If they were all out for two or three months then yes, I think Moyes would have to make a couple of signings this month to keep us in the race for the top six, despite the risk that that would entail.
West Ham could have all of those players back and available for selection by the time we play Arsenal at the London Stadium on February 11th. Before that game, we face Bristol City in the FA Cup, Sheffield United, Bournemouth and Manchester United in the Premier League and potential a fourth round FA Cup tie as well.
Is it really worth panic buying this month to bring in someone to play just four or five games? I don’t think it is. In my opinion, Moyes not rushing to sign any old player this month is actually good news, and it proves that he’s learnt from his Danny Ings mistake this time last year.
That said, I wouldn’t be opposed to Moyes bringing in a centre-back on loan to cover for Thilo Kehrer, after the German left for Monaco. It should be a really interesting final three weeks of the transfer window for West Ham.
