The stats of West Ham United and Crystal Palace stars Said Benrahma and Eberechi Eze make for very interesting reading.
Said Benrahma joined West Ham in 2020, the same time that Eberechi Eze moved to Crystal Palace, with both players making the jump up from the Championship to the Premier League.

At the time though, it was suggested that Hammers boss David Moyes wanted to sign Eze instead of Benrahma.

West Ham paid around £30 million for the 28-year-old winger (The Atheltic), whilst Palace splashed out just £19.5 million on the 25-year-old (BBC).
Since then, Eze has earned rave reviews from Palace fans, neutrals and pundits alike, whilst Benrahma seems to receive nothing but criticism.
And with that in mind, their respective stats over the past three years make for very interesting reading indeed…
Said Benrahma vs Eberechi Eze stats
Since joining Palace, Eze has played 102 games for the south London outfit. During those appearances, he has bagged 16 goals and 13 assists (Transfermarkt).
That works out at an average of a goal every 6.375 games, an assist every 7.85 games and in total, a goal contribution every 3.5 games.
Meanwhile, Benrahma has 24 goals and 19 assists in 141 games for the Hammers to his name (Transfermarkt).
Those numbers equate to a goal every 5.86 games, an assist every 7.42 games and a goal contribution every 3.28 games.

So why the Said slander? Benrahma is better than Eze in every single one of those metrics mentioned above.
Now, I fully understand that stats aren’t everything and they can sometimes skew reality. On the other hand though, it’s fair to argue that Benrahma has been unfairly treated whilst Eze is the media darling.
The Algeria international always tries to make things happen for the Hammers and whilst he has been nowhere near his best this season, he still offers us a real outlet on the left or at the very least, a top-class option from the bench.
And whilst he continues to receive criticism, Eze is constantly showered with praise. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
