ExWHUemployee claimed that David Moyes wanted to bring Eberechi Eze to the London Stadium rather than Said Benrahma during the summer transfer window, when speaking on the West Ham way podcast last night (Wednesday, October 22nd).

The Hammers ended up missing out on Eze to Crystal Palace. The Eagles paid £19.5 million to prise the 22-year-old away from Queens Park Rangers (BBC).

West Ham signed Benrahma instead, bringing the 25-year-old to the London Stadium on transfer deadline day on a season-long loan for around £4 million.

The deal will be turned into a permanent one in the summer for a further £21 million plus £5 million in add-ons (The Guardian).

The West Ham fans are incredibly excited to see the Algeria international in action. And he is in line to make his debut for the Hammers against Manchester City on Saturday.

ExWHUemployee has claimed that things could have been very different if David Moyes had got his way, however.

The Hammers insider told the West Ham Way podcast (Wednesday October 21st):

“Obviously we signed Said Benrahma. There had always been some interest in him. The club were looking at Eze. I think Moyes was more of a fan of Eze and the chairman was more of a fan of Benrahma. I was always told from the very start that Benrahma was the one who the club wanted.”

Eze has made a solid if not spectacular start to life at Palace.

Benrahma is obviously yet to make his debut for West Ham. But if he replicates the form he displayed for Brentford last season, there will not be any Hammers fans who will wish that Moyes signed Eze instead.

The 25-year-old is a real maverick. He has immense talent and could easily go on to become a cult hero at the London Stadium – something we haven’t had since Dimitri Payet left more than three-and-a-half years ago.
