West Ham are yet to sign a player in the summer transfer window and are desperately in need of class and quality in midfield following the departure of Declan Rice.
So – as we asked on Hammers News at the weekend – who better than a player Rice admitted had played him and his West Ham teammates off the pitch?
West Ham’s painful defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-final last year spurred David Moyes’ side to go one better when they lifted the Europa Conference League back in June.
But one player who has stuck in the minds of West Ham ever since that defeat to the Germans, is classy Japan midfielder Daichi Kamada.

It is fair to say Kamada was the star player in that semi-final clash. So much so West Ham have been credited with a keen interest in Kamada ever since.
Earlier this year Hammers News reported claims from Germany that Frankfurt had given up hope of getting Kamada, who is out of contract this summer, signed up to a new deal.
We then reported on an official announcement from Frankfurt that Kamada would be leaving them on a free transfer.
West Ham’s interest in the elegant 26-year-old Japan star looked to have suffered a fatal blow when Kamada agreed a free transfer move to AC Milan.

But as we revealed at the weekend, Milan have pulled the plug on that deal, putting Kamada – a player who will be well known to West Ham’s new German technical director Tim Steidten – back on the market.
West Ham faced another Italian challenge if they were looking to revive their interest, though. Because Champions League outfit Lazio were quickly linked.
But there’s been another big development which suits the Hammers.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that Lazio have chosen to sign Dynamo Moscow star Arsen Zakharyan and the Japan midfielder’s former Frankfurt teammate Djibril Sow over Kamada.
We said it at the weekend and we’ll say it again.
Signing Kamada would be an absolute no-brainer if ever there was one for West Ham.
A superb, technically gifted player, at a great age, who is quick, agile and someone who can play between the lines – something the Hammers desperately need.
Kamada is also seriously hardworking and does plenty off the ball too. He’s a wonderful all round midfield star.
So what are the Hammers waiting for?
