Julen Lopetegui was an even bigger problem than we thought after £33 million West Ham star’s complete transformation

Julen Lopetegui oversaw a disastrous six-month spell in charge of West Ham United.

His tenure at West Ham ended in January after a dismal 4-1 defeat away at Manchester City.

The decision to bring Julen Lopetegui to the London Stadium in the first place was an utterly bizarre one, and now it looks even worse than we all first thought.

Lopetegui has since shared how he was sacked via a phone-call.

The Spaniard was undermined by Tim Steidten during his time in charge of the Hammers, with the German actually holding talks with other managers about taking over.

The bottom line is that moving him on was the correct decision.

In more ways than one…

Julen Lopetegui was a big, big problem for West Ham

Lopetegui killed the confidence of nigh on every single player at the London Stadium during his stint in charge of the club.

He barely gave them any days off, and ruled with an iron fist.

Lopetegui fell out with numerous different players, and the football he implemented was absolutely dire.

His inability to communicate clearly with his players or build any kind of connection with the fans severely hindered his chances of succeeding.

The West Ham fans were totally uninspired by the 58-year-old, so can you imagine what the players felt like?

It is little wonder why the Hammers struggled so badly during Lopetegui’s tenure.

And since Potter has arrived at the club, it’s obvious to see just how bad the Spaniard was.

West Ham’s Jean-Clair Todibo completes huge transformation

West Ham signed Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice on a season-long loan deal in the summer of 2024, and we have an obligation to make that deal a permanent one for £33 million at the end of the season (Tuttosport).

It was actually claimed that he wanted to leave West Ham in January, with Juventus keen to sign him.

And he looked thoroughly depressed at the London Stadium, especially after having fallen out with Lopetegui during our 5-2 home defeat to Arsenal.

However, we’re now starting to see a completely new Todibo.

The 25-year-old Frenchman was absolutely sensational for the Hammers against Arsenal on Saturday.

He looked every bit worth the fee that the Hammers will have to pay for him in the summer with a truly flawless display.

And then after the game, Todibo was captured on video looking like he was absolutely loving life, singing ‘Bubbles’ alongside Billy Reid.

If Julen Lopetegui was allowed to stay at West Ham and see out the season, we may never have got to see the best of Jean-Clair Todibo.
