West Ham United winger Maxwel Cornet has endured a disastrous spell at West Ham, since he moved to the London Stadium in the summer of 2022.

David Moyes brought Maxwel Cornet to West Ham from Burnley for around £17.5 million 14 months ago, according to Sky Sports.

The 26-year-old arrived at the London Stadium with a big reputation as an explosive, game-changing attacking player.

He had really impressed during his spells with Burnley and Lyon, and the Hammers fans were mightily excited when he moved to East London from Turf Moor.

Unfortunately for him though, his time with West Ham can be described as nothing other than an unadulterated disaster.

He was heavily linked with a move to Everton on transfer deadline day, but remained at the London Stadium in the end.

Nothing has changed for him since deadline day though, and now things have got even worse for the Ivorian…

It’s just gone from bad to worse for West Ham winger Maxwel Cornet

Cornet received the ultimate slap in the face form Moyes yesterday, when he was omitted from the match-day squad entirely.

Not starting games and barely being given any minutes from the bench is one thing, but to be left out of the squad all together…that’s a very clear message from Moyes as far as I’m concerned.

And the Scot is blatantly saying that he doesn’t fancy the 27-year-old former Burnley man one little bit.

Cornet was a client of famous David Sullivan chum Will Salthouse when he made the switch from Turf Moor to the London Stadium. So it would be fair to suggest that maybe the winger wasn’t even a Moyes signing in the first place.

It really looks like that could have been the case. Cornet suffered an extremely unfortunate injury last October, and didn’t return to training until March of this year.

Sine then, Moyes has give him just 149 Premier League minutes (Transfermarkt) – that tells us all we need to know really doesn’t it.

It’s clear to see that Cornet will not be getting into the side ahead of Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, Said Benrahma or even Pablo Fornals.

The Ivorian has proven to be a terrible signing by Moyes. Sure, he wasn’t helped by his injury last year but even so, he needed to show so much more when he has been given a chance by the Scot.

And I would not be surprised one little bit if Maxwel Cornet leaves West Ham in the January transfer window – it will be the best outcome for the player and the club.
