If David Moyes gets sacked, forget Rafa Benitez, here are three dream free agent managers West Ham could appoint.

Moyes is in real trouble at the moment, with his Hammers team sitting precariously in 16th spot in the Premier League table, just one point clear of the drop zone.

The Scot has already been warned by the West Ham owners that results must improve quickly, if he is to remain in charge at the London Stadium.

Moyes’s stubbornness to change and mix things up could end up costing him his job. Yesterday’s performance against Arsenal was nowhere near good enough, and there are all the signs that the Scot is a dead man walking.

The West Ham boss is showing far too much faith in the likes of Tomas Soucek, Lukasz Fabianski and Vladimir Coufal. They are nowhere near good enough to be playing Premier League football, and none of them should be anywhere near the starting XI in my view.

If West Ham fail to pick up a couple of wins, or at least four points, from our games against Brentford and Leeds, the writing will be on the wall for Moyes. But who will the owners be targeting as a potential replacement for the Scot?

Three managerial targets if David Moyes gets sacked

Now, the same old names have been mentioned as possible replacements for Moyes, including the likes of Rafa Benitez, Scott Parker and Sean Dyche.

But what if the board are more ambitious than that? Here are three world-class managers who the Hammers owners and fans should be dreaming about…

Thomas Tuchel

One of the initial exponents of the ‘gegenpress’ system, Tuchel enjoyed real success during his first season in charge of Chelsea – one that culminated in Champions League glory.

The German is a defensively pragmatic coach, but that doesn’t mean that the football he implements is boring. His teams don’t sit behind the ball and look to hit their opponents on the counter – they are just very well defensively set up and well organised.

Tuchel would come in and inject some real energy, dynamism and tactical understanding into the West Ham team. We have been stale and stagnant now for far too long, and the ex-Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund boss would change all of that in an instant in my opinion.

Mauricio Pochettino

The Hammers owners allegedly tested the waters for the Argentinian back in September.

Ex-Tottenham manager Pochettino is now out of work, after being relieved of his duties with PSG at the end of last season.

His wife Karina still lives at the north London family home with son Maurizio according to The Daily Mail. This one seems like an absolute no-brainer in my opinion.

The Argentinian likes his teams to play a high-tempo, high press brand of exciting, free-flowing football. That’s something we haven’t had under David Moyes in a very long time.

It’s time for a big change at the London Stadium and I believe Pochettino is the man for the job. Whether the Hammers owners can convince him to take up the role is another matter entirely of course.

Zinedine Zidane

The France, Real Madrid and Juventus legend is out of work after leaving Real Madrid as manager back in May 2021.

Zidane is an incredibly progressive, forward-thinking approach. He likes his teams to play attractive, yet efficient football and above all, he is a winner.

The Frenchman is probably the most unrealistic of managerial targets for West Ham, but if you don’t ask you don’t get! And one thing’s for sure, the pull of the Premier League cannot be underestimated.

Zidane would be a world-class appointment in my opinion, and would represent strong evidence that the Hammers owners have genuine ambition to take this great club to the next level.

If David Moyes does indeed get sacked, I would absolutely love to see any of the three managers mentioned above rock up at the London Stadium.
