New West Ham United star Thilo Kehrer has admitted current Chelsea hero Thiago Silva is one of his idols in football.

West Ham and Chelsea were two of the busiest clubs in the summer transfer window.

The London rivals spent well over £400m on a host of top quality players from across Europe.

But it is one player who has become a cult hero at Chelsea that continues to be their rock, Brazil captain Silva.

While Chelsea fans would have been well aware of Silva’s talents when they took him from PSG, most West Ham fans knew very little about his old Paris teammate Kehrer when David Moyes moved to sign the defender in the summer.

Kehrer had entered the final year of his contract in Paris which meant West Ham were able to get the German international for just £10m.

And that is already looking like one of the bargains of the season, not just for West Ham, but across the Premier League.

Versatile Kehrer has put in some brilliant performances already at both centre-back and right-back for West Ham.

And the German had high praise for Chelsea leader Silva when asked who he looks up to in football.

“Yea there have been a few (centre-backs I look up to),” Kehrer told Sky Sports.

“One of them (I look up to most), Thiago Silva is one of them.

“When I arrived at Paris he helped me a lot.(He helped me) get to know everything and I could learn a lot from him, on and off the pitch.”

If Kehrer goes on to have half the career Silva – including with Chelsea at the grand old age of 38 – then he will prove to be one hell of a signing for West Ham.

The defender has certainly started well, quickly establishing himself as a firm fan favourite with the Hammers faithful, just like Silva did when he moved to London to join Chelsea from PSG.

Kehrer showed just how comfortable he already feels at West Ham when he was spotted barking at fans to raise the noise levels at the end of the 2-0 win over Wolves last weekend.
