West Ham man Jarrod Bowen must use the World Cup break to salvage his damaged reputation after his shocking season so far.

Bowen has been an absolute shadow of his former self so far this term, and pretty much everyone could tell he was way off the mark after only a few games of the season.

Before the season started, David Moyes said that one player returned to pre-season training out of shape, and then later went on to suggest that that player was Bowen.

This season, the 25-year-old certainly hasn’t been at the races. He seems to be heavier and certainly hasn’t been as quick and lively as he was last term.

That’s a huge worry for West Ham. His form has played a key role in our struggles as a team this season in my opinion, and Moyes should have dropped him down to the bench on numerous occasions.

The former Hull City man has lost out on the England World Cup squad as well, and that would have been a massive blow for him.

Now the onus is on Bowen to turn things around for both himself and West Ham…

West Ham man Jarrod Bowen needs to repair damaged reputation

He has five goals and zero assists to his name in 21 games in all competitions now this season (Transfermarkt).

Compare that to last term when he bagged 18 goals and 13 assists in 51 games.

It seems like Bowen could be a one-trick pony who has been found out.

His move where he cuts inside onto his left foot is so easily telegraphed now. So he has to work on adding some explosive power and pace back into his legs, so he can take his man on down the outside, and mix things up a little bit.

Bowen also seems to be reverting to being stuck on the touchline. He rarely floats into space in the middle of the pitch anymore – something that yielded such rich rewards for him last season.

The 25-year-old needs to sit down with David Moyes and look at tapes of what made him so good.

Jarrod Bowen still has so much to offer this West Ham team.

We are completely toothless up front it seems when he’s not playing. We need Bowen back, fully fit and firing on all cylinders when Premier League football resumes.

Let’s hope that the World Cup break ends up being a good thing for the Hammers attacker.
