West Ham brought up the halfway stage of the campaign in typical fashion on Saturday – by losing.
And to make matters worse, it was to direct relegation rivals Wolves.
Given what was at stake, it was another insipid, turgid, lifeless display for the most part.
West Ham came alive for the last few minutes and stoppage time in what was an all too familiar tale of too little, too late.
The defeat means the Hammers have lost 20 of their last 37 Premier League games. The team have only won 13 of their last 46 league games. There has been no win in seven Premier League games. For context, with 19 matches left West Ham likely need to win seven games to stay up.
Whatever way you try to dress it up there is nowhere to hide.

If the Scot were to be axed now there is little chance of attracting high class managers such as Thomas Tuchel or Mauricio Pochettino.
That would almost certainly mean Sean Dyche would be the frontrunner after claims from club insiders should West Ham lose to Wolves.
Appointing Dyche may get the reaction West Ham need to stay up. But is it the right move for the medium to long term?
West Brom boss Carlos Corberan has also been linked – but even he may think twice given the Baggies could replace West Ham in the Premier League in four months’ time.

So do West Ham take a gamble and wait for Chelsea or Leicester to sack under pressure managers Graham Potter or Brendan Rodgers?
Either would be a major upgrade on Moyes and would bring a fresh, modern approach.
Yes it could be argued they are both struggling so why would they suddenly turn West Ham around. But their circumstances at Chelsea and Leicester are very different to Moyes’ at the London Stadium.
Potter has inherited a huge squad put together with no plan or structure in mind and is dealing with massive expectation to compete for the title and Champions League spots.
Rodgers has had next to no money to spend and has lost some of his key players including captain Kasper Schmeichel and Wesley Fofana.
Many fans feel West Ham should have sacked Moyes after the dismal home defeat to Brentford recently.
Now every week the Scot remains in the job feels like time wasted.
There is also no guarantee either Potter or Rodgers would want to go straight into another job should they be sacked in the coming weeks.
It is a huge dilemma for David Sullivan, Daniel Kretinsky and the Gold family.
An alternative would be to get someone like Dyche in on a short-term deal for the rest of the season – like they did with Moyes back in 2017 – and then see who is available should he manage to keep the Hammers up come what May.
