West Ham want Spanish leading man Carlos Corberan but may bide their time as part of the David Moyes succession plan.

West Ham got their first win in seven games with a victory over Brentford in the FA Cup at the weekend.

But what really matters is the bread and butter of the Premier League with a massive six-pointer against Wolverhampton Wanderers looming large on the horizon this weekend.

West Ham play Wolves with manager Moyes under huge pressure to turn the club’s wretched Premier League season around.

The Hammers sit 17th, outside the relegation by virtue of goal difference. Ironically West Ham were only kept outside the bottom three by Aston Villa’s equaliser against Wolves last time out.

Defeat at Molineux will leave West Ham in the relegation zone whereas victory would build on the draw at Leeds and potentially lift Moyes’ side up to 13th depending on results elsewhere.

There has been claim and counter claim over what Moyes needs to do to survive the axe at West Ham in recent weeks. And a host of managers have been linked as the Scot’s potential replacement.

Earlier this week there was a huge claim that out of work Sean Dyche is being lined up to replace Moyes on a short-term West Ham contract should the Hammers lose at Wolves.

Now there is a new name in the running but with a very different timeline.

A report claims West Ham want Spanish leading man Carlos Corberan but may bide their time as part of a Moyes succession plan.

According to The Sun, former Huddersfield and current West Brom boss Corberan is the man West Ham want to take over from Moyes.

But not until the summer at the earliest.

“This worrying slip has seen some of the club’s fan base call for Moyes to be sacked, but the club are sticking by him for now,” The Sun reports.

“However, the club are thinking of future and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan is being considered as a potential replacement beyond this season.

“The Spaniard has only been at the Baggies since October but has worked wonders at the club…

“He (Moyes) still has the backing of owner David Sullivan and the board, who are known not to have quick trigger fingers on managers.

“So it still seems likely that Moyes will be in place at the London Stadium for the remainder of the season.”

We questioned whether West Ham fans would welcome links to Dyche. There is no denying he did a superb job at Burnley. But would Hammers supporters see him as the type of manager to progress the team?

But the Corberan links are different. This is a young, modern boss with a completely different football philosophy who has worked wonders at Huddersfield and West Brom.

West Ham would be a big step up, though. So perhaps it is wise that the club are allegedly waiting until the summer at the earliest before making any move for the Baggies’ main man.
