Nayef Aguerd is in very real danger of being dropped by West Ham manager David Moyes.

That’s according to The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas who suggests that the alarming drop-off in form from West Ham centre-back Nayef Aguerd has not gone unnoticed.

Hammers boss David Moyes brought the 27-year-old centre-back to the London Stadium from Rennes for around £30 million in the summer of 2022 (Sky Sports).

Despite some impressive showings, Aguerd seems to have regressed badly over the past six months or so.

I have already suggested that Moyes should drop the Moroccan for the Liverpool game this weekend, with Konstantinos Mavropanos waiting in the wings.

And it seems as though the 25-year-old is really pushing Aguerd now for a starting spot…

The Athletic journalist is claiming that the Morocco international faces being dropped by Moyes unless he bucks his ideas up quickly.

Aguerd was at fault for Manchester City’s second goal at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The big worry here is that it wasn’t a rare mistake – they seem to be happening far too regularly.

The former Rennes ace has poor positional awareness and is rash both in the challenge and with his decision making.

There is definitely a very good player in there somewhere but right now, he needs to be taken out of the firing line so that he can refocus and work hard on his weaknesses.

Nayef Aguerd has been the weak-link for West Ham this season as far as I’m concerned.

I still think he’ll have a long and prosperous future with West Ham but right now, the wisest decision that David Moyes could make would be to drop him.

Will he really be dropped for the Liverpool game though? Much will depend on how Mavropanos performs against Backa Topola tomorrow night I guess.
