West Ham United defender Ben Johnson has just praised his teammate Aaron Cresswell to the absolute hilt.

Ben Johnson burst onto the scene at West Ham four years ago when he was just 19, and at that time Aaron Cresswell was one of the first names on the team-sheet.

However, Cresswell has now assumed a peripheral role at the London Stadium, and is nowhere near the starting XI really.

Johnson was speaking on the Iron Cast podcast.

“I’d say Cress – he’s been a great servant for the club, as everyone knows. He’s still doing it at the highest level, so professional – he does it properly every day on and off the pitch and he’s given me some great advice.”

Either Johnson is forgetting about the left-back’s antics in the summer, or the claims made about Cresswell’s refusal to train were false. I suspect that it’s a case of the former.

In fairness to the 33-year-old, he has been a great servant for us over the past nine years.

However, he clearly wanted to leave before the start of this season, and I wouldn’t be in the slightest bit surprised if he moves on either in January or next summer.

Ben Johnson spoke very highly of Aaron Cresswell, but I feel like the West Ham defender’s praise for his teammate was slightly misplaced.
