West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna has responded to reporters when asked about a potential new contract.

Ogbonna, 34, has returned to action this season, having suffered a serious ACL injury back in November last year.

The Italian has been eased back into action slowly, and has played just 361 minutes of first-team football so far this season.

Last month though, West Ham Manager David Moyes suggested that he was concerned that he might be pushing Angelo Ogbonna back too quickly.

The 34-year-old is out of contract at the London Stadium in the summer of 2023. And as things stand, it’s up in the air as to whether he’ll be offered a contract extension…

West Ham ace Angelo Ogbonna responds to new contract question

The experienced defender faced the media today ahead of the Hammers’ Europa Conference League clash with Anderlecht tomorrow night.

The former Juventus man has played a key role for West Ham in Europe this season but has barely featured in the Premier League.

So does he see a future for himself at the club beyond next summer?

Ogbonna responded when asked if he has had any talks regarding a new contract with the Hammers, as quoted by Football.London:

To be honest, no. I’m just enjoying it. It’s been a long journey and when the time comes, we can consider it.

Ogbonna, who earns £70k-a-week according to Spotrac, is still a vitally important player for West Ham, both on and off the pitch.

Signed from Juventus for just £10 million in 2015 (The Guardian), Ogbonna has turned out to be a superb value for money signing for the Hammers.

In my opinion, Angelo Ogbonna is someone who David Moyes should be keeping at West Ham for at least one or two more years.

His influence on the pitch and behind the scenes cannot be underestimated. He is a natural leader, and we think that the Hammers would really miss him if he was released next summer.
