Tim Sherwood delivers James Tarkowski to West Ham January transfer verdict

Tim Sherwood suggested that Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski would be a brilliant signing for West Ham, when speaking on Sky Sports Gillette Soccer Saturday (December 11th, 1:11pm).

Hammers boss David Moyes wants to bring the 29-year-old Clarets ace to the London Stadium from Turf Moor according to a report from The Sun.

West Ham are allegedly prepared to pay round £7 million for Tarkowski. Burnley boss Sean Dyche is allegedly demanding closer to £15 million, however (Football Insider).

The 29-year-old defender is out of contract with Burnley in the summer so the Lancashire outfit will surely have to sell him for less than £15 million, if he fails to sign a new deal.

Tim Sherwood thinks West Ham signing Tarkowski would be huge

David Moyes will undoubtedly be keen to bring in a top-class centre-back in January.

Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma have both been ruled out with long-term injuries.

And Sherwood told Sky Sports why he believes Tarkowski would be a big signing for West Ham:

“Tarkowski is the man who everyone is going to want. Now, would they sell to Newcastle? Of course you wouldn’t if you were Burnley because you’re in a relegation battle with them. They would sell to West Ham and I think he’s a realistic target and I think if he was to go there in January it would be a huge plus for them.”

Sherwood is spot on here.

Tarkowski would be a great addition for the Hammers. But only if Burnley are prepared to sell him for a fair price. There’s no point paying more than £10 million for a 29-year-old who will be out of contract in the summer.

Tarkowski would definitely make us stronger. And we would love to see him rock up at the London Stadium in January. We should not be paying anywhere near his reported £15 million price-tag though.
