Sky Sports reporter’s Flynn Downes rating from West Ham vs Anderlecht was an absolute joke

Flynn Downes was absolutely sensational for West Ham against Anderlecht in the UEFA Europa Conference League last night.

The 23-year-old joined West Ham from Swansea City for around £12 million in the summer transfer window (Sky Sports).

He has hardly played in the Premier League, but has featured regularly in the Europa Conference League.

And Downes has made a big impression for West Ham.

He looks like an unbelievably good player and his performance last night was truly brilliant.

£12 million looks like an absolute bargain for Downes. The way that the ex-Swansea ace takes the ball on the back foot and opens up his body provides so much more fluidly to our play through the middle of the park.

His passing accuracy has been really impressive as well and he just constantly keeps us ticking over as a team. Downes put in arguably his best performance yet in a West Ham shirt.

The 23-year-old is tenacious and aggressive in the tackle and has really impressive stamina and energy levels.

But amazingly, one Sky Sports reporter thought he was average at best…

Sky Sports reporter’s Flynn Downes rating from West Ham vs Anderlecht was an absolute joke

Sky Sports reporter Ben Grounds delivered a match report after the game last night.

In that report, he gave his player ratings. Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma were given 8/10s whilst the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Aaron Cresswell were handed 7/10s.

In fact, only four players were given worse than 7/10’s – Alphonse Areola, Angelo Ogbonna, Ben Johnson and….Flynn Downes!!

Ben Grounds graded the 23-year-old’s performance as a 6/10. How utterly ridiculous.

Did he even watch the game? Surely not.

Downes has everything needed to succeed with West Ham at the very highest level.

He actually reminds me a lot of Declan Rice when he was coming through the ranks at the London Stadium.

I think that Downes is more than ready to play regularly in the Premier League for the Hammers. He’d compliment Declan Rice and Lucas Paqueta perfectly in the middle of the park.

The 23-year-old proved last night just how much he has to offer.

Sky Sports’ Flynn Downes rating from West Ham vs Anderlecht was utterly ridiculous.

And it proves once again that people outside of the club just don’t watch us regularly and therefore, they shouldn’t be judging our players or their performances.
