Sebastian Haller recently spoke out after leaving West Ham United for Ajax back in January and he has now been proven right.

Ajax signed the 27-year-old hitman from the Hammers for around £20.25 million (BBC) 11 months ago.

Haller had been a huge flop at West Ham having moved to the London Stadium from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019 for around £45 million.

The Ivory Coast international managed just 14 goals and three assists in 54 games for the Hammers.

He has been an absolute revelation for Ajax, however.

Haller spoke back in October about how leaving West Ham was the right decision:

“I don’t see it as a step back, far from it. It turned out to be a very sensible decision. I can shine in the Champions League, all thanks to Ajax.”

And now it seems as though Haller has been proven right.

Haller leaving West Ham for Ajax was the perfect move

The 27-year-old striker has been on fire for the Dutch giants. He has bagged 32 goals and 13 assists in 44 games so far for Ajax (Transfermarkt).

Haller has saved his best form for the Champions League. The Ivorian has scored 10 goals in just six games in Europe’s premier competition.

He became the first ever player to score in their first ever six games in the competition.

The former West Ham ace is thriving with Ajax. He really struggled under David Moyes at the London Stadium, and at the time, selling him seemed to be the right decision.

Some West Ham fans are suggesting that David Moyes should have kept hold of Haller.

It is what it is and what’s done is done. We can’t keep looking back on what could have been. Who knows what would have happened had the 27-year-old stayed at West Ham? The bottom line is that Haller was a good player who just didn’t suit our system.

We cannot argue one way or another whether he would now be flourishing under Moyes.

Something we cannot argue about though is the fact that Haller made the right choice in leaving the London Stadium.
